I did get a lot done today even though it was a slow start.
Some how I just stumbled across a story about a local politician from back in 2004. I believe the elected may have fudged a few things in his interview. I'd never heard that Pete Liakakis served in the military so the information was news to me. I found this story http://www.connectsavannah.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A2146
I didn't know Pete Liakakis was a former officer in the Air Force and didn't know he had served both the Air Force and the National Guard.
Connect asked Liakakis where his support was coming from for his chairman run and his answer was "There are a lot of veterans supporting me, because of my service in the Air Force and the National Guard."
Connect described Liakakis as "one of Savannah’s most interesting people. The 72-year-old black belt martial artist was once a bodyguard for Burt Reynolds. A former Air Force officer, Liakakis served as head of local Civil Defense during much of the Cold War, and can tell some entertaining -- and sometimes chilling -- stories from what he saw during that time as an intelligence officer and bomb disposal expert."
I just got off the phone with a former Air Force Colonel and he stated he has known Pete Liakakis since the 50's and has never known Pete Liakakis to have ever worn a uniform in the armed forces.
As it is known that Pete Liakakis was once convicted of a felony, I wonder if Pete was an officer in the Air Force before or after his conviction? Chilling stories? Intelligence officer? Bomb disposal expert? I had no idea!!!! I want to know more.
I wonder if there was some mixup at Connect about the contents of their article. I will give them a call tomorrow.
If anyone has any information on Pete ever having served in the military please post a comment. I am equally interested in his background as an intelligence officer and bomb disposal expert.
